Anti-Child Labour Day observed at College of Fisheries Engineering, Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, Nagapattinam.
Nagapattinam June 12 2019; Every year on June 12 the World Day against Child Labour is observed to raise awareness of the plight of child labourers’ world-wide.The Anti-Child Labour Day was observed at College of Fisheries Engineering, Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, Nagapattinam. Dr. K. Rathnakumar, Dean i/c of the College presided the event. In his speech, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations body that regulates the World Day against Child Labour on 12th June 2002 in order to bring attention and join efforts to fight against child labour. According to ILO's data, hundreds of millions of girls and boys throughout the world are involved in work that deprives them of receiving an adequate education, health, leisure and basic freedom, violating this way their rights. Of these children, more than half are exposed to the worst forms (hazardous environments, slavery and drug trafficking) of child labour. In the presence Dean of the College, Professors, students and office workers took the Anti-Child Labour Day Pledge. The coordinator of this event, Dr. M. Kamalakannan, Assistant Professor, expressed that more than 120 persons including faculty members, students, and non-teaching staff were participated in this event.
