Memorandum for Tuticorin Airport Development and Expansion
Tuticorin 2020 july 6 ;Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Tuticorin which was founded way back in the year 1925 and affiliated to FICCI, New Delhi, is a nodal agency rendering its service for propelling the growth of Trade and Industries in and around Tuticorin. It gives immense satisfaction to the Indian Chamber to see the phenomenal growth of Tuticorin in all segments such as industry, Trade, and Shipping etc.
Indian Chamber of commerce & Industry, Tuticorin is pleased to submit this MEMORANDUM for the following crucial infrastructure required for the development of the Tuticorin Airport as an International Airport and Multimodal transport hub.
Valid Supporting Reasons
We wish to highlight that the “Union Government” has given approval for the Tuticorin Inner & Outer Harbour Project and also “Government of Tamilnadu” has proposed Madurai – Tuticorin Industrial Corridor. The proposed Madurai-Tuticorin Industrial Corridor will kindle industrialization in this Region and generate hinder land Cargo for Tuticorin V.O.C.Port and more passenger for the Airlines.
Our Chamber perusing with various agencies involved to bring one more major industrial investment to Tuticorin. This will create a cluster of vendor development and generate business potential to become Tamilnadu’s Industrial Hub and also to be Taminadu’s Export Hub being many EOU and Exporting companies are established in this region and to be Power Hub since few more Power projects are in the anvil in Tuticorin District.
The Tamilnadu State Government should undertake to acquire more acres of land for the expansion projects and for the future development since it is very difficult to acquire more land in later stage seeing the problems presently faced by Chennai and Kolkata Airport.
Present Runway length 1350 Meters x w 30 Meters.
To strengthen and extend the runway length to (3,600 m x w 45 meters) for operating bigger Aircrafts like Boeing and Airbus.
Note: It should be equipped to operate (code-E) aircrafts (like B-777) and compatible with (code- F) aircrafts (such as A-380)
To arrange to newly construct Bigger space area at departure hall and arrival hall and give face lift for the airport with greenery and repainting.
The terminal approach road from Tirunelveli – Tuticorin main road needs to be widened.
To place the advance satellite based automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast system (ADS-B) Doppler VOR systems to improve operational efficiency and safety.
Instrument Flight Rule (IFR) has been installed.,We eagerly look for New domestic services to Hyderabad / Coimbatore/ Mumbai/ Cochin.
New International Air service to Colombo / Male .,To construct new ultra modern Passenger Airport Terminal (Apron to park 10 Aircrafts with Aero bridge facility)
Cargo Hub: The geographical advantage of Tuticorin location, Tuticorin Airport will be suitable for Air Cargo Hub like Dubai being a port city. We foresee huge opportunity for Tuticorin Airport to attract International transshipment Air cargo.,Also, Tuticorin Airport may be suitable for hanger / aircraft maintenance as well as Aviation Training & Flying Club.
Establish Terminal Management team for passenger facilitation and also finance section for speedy approvals.,CSR activity to be initiated for the upliftment of rural community.,Thanks & Appreciation to AAI (Works Completed) ,Airport Advisory Committee has been formed. Runway strip from centre line of runway to 140 mtr is lapelled & graded.
The Simple Approach Lighting System was installed, runway edge lights with two circuit system, Apron floodlighting, Mandatory Sign, informatory Sign were made available for night landing operation.
Tuticorin Airport has been granted up-gradation of Aerodrome License to 3C IFR ,Provided enhanced safety and operational efficiency
became an all weather Airport with day and night operational facility and capable of handling Dornier AN32 type of Aircrafts.
Our Chamber envisages substantial domestic and international traffic once the above facilities are implemented. On a survey conducted, most of the Sri Lankan traffic originates from Tuticorin, Kanniyakumari and Tirunelveli Districts and hence, Airlines will be also interested to commence air service to Sri Lanka and to other destinations once the above facilities/infrastructure are created in this airport.
